Week 3 Promt

  1. Book 4 of the Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series is The Lunatic Cafe according the Goodreads.

  2.  Using Novelist's search terms, I looked for lyrical and fast-pased books in a similar style to Kingsolver. I would recommend Love and Ruin by Paula McLain. Both Love and Ruin and Prodigal Summer feature character driven novels that are rich with detail.
  3.  I would suggest Pachinko by Min Jin Lee as my own personal recommendation. However, in using Goodreads to look for books set in Japan, James Clavell's Shōgun is well received. It is still historical fiction, but it is based on actual Japanese historical events.
  4. Using the read-alikes feature on Novelist, I selected Louise Penny's Still Life. In comparison to George's Well-Schooled in Murder, both are richly detailed, police mysteries that are intricately plotted. Looking through the reviews, Still Life has no mentions of 'creepiness,' or any unsettling subject matter.
  5.  I went to the Zombies! list on Goodreads for the following books, The Zombie Survival Guide (by Max Brooks), Warm Bodies (by Isaac Marion), and Rot & Ruin (by Jonathan Maberry). I choose these books based on how patrons have mentioned them to me in the past.
  6.  Darkest Minds, Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda, Ready Player One, The Martian, The Girl on the Train, A Monster Calls, The Zookeeper's Wife, Everything, Everything are just a few books that were turned into a movie in the last few years. These are a mixure of my memory and the book to movies genre on Novelist (through the Quick Links).
  7.  In working with patrons who have very similar requests, Amish mysteries and thrillers are well received. I would suggest A Gathering of Secrets by Linda Castillo or Falling to Pieces by Vannetta Chapman. These books I found by looking into Amish Mysteries and Thrillers via Goodreads.

I prefer to use Goodreads to find new books. I've messed with Novelist in the past, and while I love it as a Readers Advisory tool, I've never felt the desire to use it myself. I tend to just stalk the Goodreads New Releases page as well as read the summaries of most books that come in through my workplace.
